Homework: Finish problem 7 on Density-1. Also do all the problems on Density-3
In Class:
-You were to receive three papers today with Density-1,2,3.
-We then graded our own quizzes from Friday.
-We went over Friday's homework on Scientific notation. There were a couple tricky ones. Here are some correct examples we went over in class.
c. 0.00304 kg = 3.04 x 10(subscript -3) kg
f. 0.0000338 g = 3.38 x 10(subscript -5) g
-We then learned about Sig Fig (Significant Figures)
There are 3 Sig Fig in 56.1
Here are some various examples:
56.1 = 3
3.108 = 4
4.320 = 4
400 = 1 (Watch the zeros!!)
0.1126 = 4
5.032 g = 4
2500 cm = (The zeros are just placement holders)
-We finally went over Density
We did Density-1 together in class. We were given the following formula to help us through several problems: D= m/v
#4 should have been like this. Remember to put the measurements in your work as well.
If the mass of a liquid is 35 grams and the volume is 7 mL, what is the density of the liquid?
D= m/v D= 35 g / 7 ml
The answer is obviously D= 5 g/mL. But remember that there should only be 1 significant digit in your answer because.... 35 = 2 and 7 = 1. Your answer should have the same amount of digits as the lowest factor in your problem/formula... This sounds veryyyy confusing so make sure you ask questions in class.
